“The human heart yearns for contact – above all it yearns for genuine dialogue...Each of us secretly and desperately yearns to be ‘met’ – to be recognised in our uniqueness, our fullness and our vulnerability.”
Hycner and Jacobs
I seek to see your world through your eyes and to value and respect you as an individual without judgement. My aim is for you to feel safe and trusting enough to feel able to be who you are without limitations or censorship. Using a nurturing and supportive approach I will enable you to come to a clearer understanding of what you want, accepting what you decide is right for you.
My approach is a relational one which means we will explore the experience of what is happening between us as well as the issues you bring to increase your self-awareness.
I use various ‘Humanistic’ approaches to counselling which enables me to work in a way that is tailored individually to you. Sometimes we cannot find the words to reflect the depth and range of emotions we are feeling. Therefore at times I may offer creative ways of working such as using objects or creative techniques, to help you express yourself and to offer valuable insight or awareness. However this will always depend on what you are comfortable with.
Sessions can be difficult and uncomfortable at times, as exploring the depths of ourselves can be painful, but also rewarding and enlightening. They reflect the challenges of life and may help towards using those challenges in a constructive and positive way. We will work at a pace that feels comfortable for you at all times.
You may have a specific issue you wish to explore or change where short-term work is appropriate, or you may have concerns that require a longer timescale to enable you to increase your awareness and understanding of yourself at a deeper level to make more significant changes. How long we might work together is entirely dependent on what you feel you need and we would discuss this at your initial appointment.
